Kalama has a strong community spirit with some families able to trace their roots back to the official incorporation in 1871. Several volunteer groups are active in the community, including Kalama Lions Club, AMALAK Woman’s Club, VFW, Envision Kalama, F.O.L.K. (Friends of the Kalama Library), Kalama Fair, Garden Club, and various sport organizations.

All throughout the year, community events are being held, from an Italian dinner in June, the Fair in July, a Car Show in August, an Art Event in September, Antique Wheel & Deal twice a year, bingo throughout the year, bazaars, and much more.
