KALAMA CHAMBER DINNER 2011

On Saturday night March 26th the Annual Chamber Dinner and Installation Banquet was being hold in the Community Building hosted by the Kalama Chamber of Commerce.

After a wonderful sit-down dinner with Pork Tenderloin or Chicken Marsala, the officers and new board members for 2011 were installed. They are in no particular order;
Stacey Yeaman – Garden Gate Floral & Gifts
Liz Norgaard – Heritage Bank
Karen Eastwood – Karen’s Quilt Loft
Mara Walton – Ciao Baby Catering
Renie Duvall – EcoTech Recycling
Robin Waliezer – Skin & Day Spa
Liz Newman – Port of Kalama
Cleone Kockritz – Honorary Member
Saskia Terhorst – Saskia Graphic Design
Taryn Nelson – Remax Results Realty

After that the Awards were presented. Totem of the Year award went to very dedicated gentlemen who despite several hurdles had the Christmas lights hang up in our downtown area. Thank you Tom Eastwood and Don Armeni.
The School Employee of the Year award went to Victoria Wells, who has been teaching with lots of energy and enthusiasm at the Kalama Elementary School. Keep up the good work Victoria.

For the first time this year there was a Chamber of Commerce Presidents Award, who went to Saskia Terhorst from Saskia Graphic Design for her endless efforts for the Chamber. She has been in charge of setting up the website, creates the newsletter, and is in charge of the Embrace Kalama campaign of together with Dena Diamond from Double D’s Feed Store. Plus she has set up the budget for the last three years. It is hard to find a project at the Chamber that she hasn’t touched. Thank you for your hard work Saskia.

And then it was time for the Citizen of the Year award. This individual has been quietly serving the community of Kalama for quite some time. Her service generally revolves around helping children in a variety of ways; she has served on the library board, she has served in her church as the president of the children’s Primary organization and in the youth program. She can always be seen working with a group of kids at the Kalama Community Clean up days. She is a talented writer and her works can be seen in many local publications. She writes the Port of Kalama newsletter, the school paper for children entitled, “Fishtales” and contributes often to the Embrace Kalama newsletter. We look forward to someday reading a novel penned by her. Carolyn Reyoldson is a good friend of hers and they work together to bring the swimming program to life for the children of Kalama.
She also helped make the “Girls on the Run” a reality. This is a nation – wide program that teaches pre-teen girls about health, self esteem and nutrition. It was just a dream a couple of years ago, discussed on the playground. Teachers and students alike participated in making this dream come true. Joining the team last year, this individual gets up at the crack of dawn and runs with the girls every morning. She encourages them by her good example and dedication.

One of her biggest contributions is in the classroom. She volunteers every week in Leigh Ford’s room, although she hasn’t had one of her own children in there for a couple of years now. Her quiet and calm demeaner brings out the best in “She is so willing to freely give to others. She has a gift that she shares unselfishly. The kids respond to her supporting guidance and just adore her.”
She truly brings out the best in everybody she is involved with.

And with that the Kalama Chamber of Commerce awarded Joelle Wilson the Citizen of the Year award for 2011.

Congratulations!
